Does anyone know of at place on the web where I can check how a given Pantone color looks and give me a rgb color for that (I know that it will never match perfectly but just to get a indication and something to compare my render color to on screen) ?

I know that Pantone makes a book called Color Bridge. It allows you to look up a pantone color and it will give you the CMYK and web (essentially RGB) equivalents. I don't own the guide, but from a screenshot of one of the pages in the book, the web values they give are NOT just a straight Photoshop pantone to rgb conversion.
I know you asked for an online version, but I have yet to find it from a reputable source. Most of the versions I found were Photoshop color conversions and not from Pantone themselves. I'm pretty sure that information is copyrighted anyway. If you find a source, please post the info here.
Good luck!

RBG
I use ColorPix, which is free. I usually ask the designer to pick a Benjamin Moore color and I go to:

I type in the color they chose, use CoorPix to get the RGB, and use photoshop from there. I use LWF and darken the color -50%. Seems like a lot of hoops, but it is the only think I found that works.Bobby Parker

RGB
I am running MAX 9 so the color correct isn't working for me. The developer has a beta out, but it makes my max crash.Bobby Parker

Thank you all for some great hints and pointers (some great resources and suggestions, thanks) .. customer pointed to a color in a Pantone book and told me to take the book with me home to study. In there a cmyk value is given, not exately the one the Photoshop PS2 gives but very close..Lars Bjorstrup
