Copying proxy many many times

I have a series of placeholders for positioning trees in a scene, numbering a few hundred. How do I tell a vrayproxy of a tree to place itself at each placeholder?

I've seen this done before (I think) but I can't for the life of me remember how to do it.

Any ideas?

The clone and align tool will do it or a script called object replacer from blurscripts.

if you turned your placeholders into proxies you could just modify the proxy load path.
