    Yes we looked at these a while back for DV systems but we were not
    impressed.

    They use an old style 32Bit PCI slot to hold RAM like an internal hard drive
    (RAM is insanely fast when compared to normal HDD storage). We found the limitation of 32Bit Windows is reached too easily (4GB Max Storage) and the older style 32Bit Pci V2.2 Slot has some address space issues that can result wasted memory.

    Software support is limited as Windows still likes a page file and files
    still get stored on hard disk drives (that are slower).

    It is not very popular


    The External S-ATA Hard Drive Solutions from people like LaCie have a better sustained transfer rate and are available in sizes well over the 4GB I-RAM limit.
