  • Children of Men - your thoughts?

My coworker has recomended to watch this movie. I can only say that, I hated it, almost wanted to leave half way through. Story about nothing, pointless plot... Nothing to really care about.
And suprised to hear that, many thing its fantastic and great movie.

i thouht it was the best film i saw all year. great film making, simple and effective, adapted from P.D. James novel.

i know everyone willhave different views, but the acting was superb (Michael Caine, legend), the sets and action were very well put together, no alterior motives, no flag waving, no happy endings, no overly soppy bits. A good British film IMO.
(even if the Director wasnt )

and best of all no three hour Hollywood ending, explaining life the universe and everyhting, and charting the next ten years of every character, so we cna make sure they truley are happy.

    lol

v-for vendetta, the awsome Alan Moore novel, should have been more like this, and missed the mark with some crappy Holywood-isation.

that article is really interesting, good find! its a good example of the cool camera work.

there is a bit in the film, probably coolest geek bit, where blood from an explosion slops over the camera, no attempt to remove it, which is a nice touch. goes after the next cut, but its the sort of thing that really pulls you into the action.

i feel like im trying to sell it! lol....

                  Mh, yeah.
I heard somewhere there's even people who read books, and don't look upon male hormons like they were the solution to all of life's issues.
                  Few, mind you.
Precious few, though, if you ask me.

Seems like maybe it's one for the Brits then, because it was definitely my favourite film of last year, when it really blew me away. The vfx were very well executed without being in your face, the camera work was flawless, and the sound design was incredible - especially when seen at the cinema in the sequence where the motorcycle is chasing the car in the forest. All in all, I loved how it was so low key and under played.

A friend told me that in the US, the marketing is pushing the film as the Blade Runner for the 21st Century. There are some obvious similarities main character traits, the setting of the dystopian near future, the idea of retro-fitting, etc, but on the whole I don't agree with comparisons like that as they imply the film is somewhat derivative.

Watched it again on DVD last night, and though it had obviously lost a lot of impact from the cinema, I still thought it was stunning. Just my 2 cents!

                              hehe elf...
ok, lets put the VFX, the camera work and other fx aside. This movie has a story... women have stopped getting pregnent...why? no one knows. Why did this one woman get pregnent? no one knows. What is the human project? no one knows. Why do we have to care? I dont know, I didnt care... Bullshit. Too many questions to answer them all. I think that this movie is like war of the worlds. Those who read the novel loved the movie because they filled in the gaps with the book. I didnt read, so to me a lot is unexplained, movie like ended in a foggy dream.
I think all north americans loved this movie. But europeans did not...ahhahhaha
