Well...Here is the latest and greatest that we are getting.....The main reason I posted is to find out if there is anything I am missing. I know the graphics card is not the option, but We are getting a GEFORCE 8800 from another vendor.... I had to keep it around 5000, so I could not up the processors to Quads or the 3ghz....but it should be MUCH faster than what I have anyways.... thanx all

I think this should belong in the 'Take 5/Off Topic' section...

Have you checked to see if Boxx any cheaper? Plus, I don't know about that Vista thing. I would stay away from that for a long time until it has been tried & tested by some other sucker.

Have you given any thought to building them yourself? You would save a ton of money so you could almost get 2 for the price of one. Plus it's fun.

I second that. For now keep away from it, until SP2 or so

Well.....We buy all Dell, cause of the warranties and what not....so the price really isnt that much of an issue.....So perhaps the Vists should be waited on, but what bout the other specs as well....Admin if you want to move the thread that is fine...I wasnt paying attention.

I dont mind being a guniea pig for these sorts of things...But I think your right....maybe just get Windows XP 64 and then wait.....Vists isnt gonna make me render faster anyways... lol

              Thanx

at this time i think that you have to look at the xeon 5300 serie
for the same price you can have more power than the 5100 serie

                  if

                  2 xeon 3.06 = 1
                  intel qx6700 (oclock 2.6 -3.2) = 3.8
                  2 xeon 5160 = 3
                  2 xeon 2310 = 4.3
                  2 xeon 5320 = 4.6
                  2 xeon 5345 = 4.7

                    PC Specs

The first thing I saw was the price and I expected to see a lot more machine for what you are paying. I guess I would have to ask what the ram is costing you.... I would venture to guess 1/3 of the price. Also, what are they charging you for the extra monitor? I would guess you have a $1,800 workstation and the rest is monitor and ram.

well....I was gonna get the Geforce 8800...a lot of people here seem to like it....I just want to be able to pan around my models effeicently..spelling?
The video card in the specs is just the minimum, as I stated they dont offer it in the pick sheet. the Ram is costing me roughly $1320 from an upgrade from 1gb Ram. The 1st monitor is free and the second is $300.00 AGAIN....we are getting a Dell dude... old reference...Isnt he in jail...anyways....So I am limited to the spec sheet they provide.

Bobby...what did you expect....it is a Dual.Dual Core machine.....I wish I could build a system, but that is not an option at the time...I have built my own in the past, but again...at my company we only buy dell...I know...that sucks....

                      Serge...would the Quad Core Intel® Xeon® Processor E5320 1.86GHz, 2 X 4MB L2,1066 be better than what I had listed...

                      again thanx all

I second RErender's comment about the RAM. I doubt you're going to ever use the full 8GB.

An other thing about Dell, when you compare the price with Boxx they could be different but when you discuss about them with Dell they can kill their prices, I don't know if Boxx make the same thing.
And I don'"t work for Dell for example for a Dell like this around 5500$ you could have around 15% less with negotiations. i say that because I have buy some of their UC with this kind of negotiation which is totaly normal in commerce.
                          =:-/

have a look at my message
i' m on the way to replace my old xeon
if you consider that 2 xeon 3.06 ghz is 1
                            so 2 xeon 5160 can replace 3 of the 2xeon 3.06
                            2xeon 5310 can replace 4.3 2xeon 3.06
                            2xeon 5320 can replace 4.6 2xeon 3.06

here in switzerland with this base 2xeon5310 are the best value for the price

but no way to found this at now

qx 6700 would be my second choice

I recently shopped Boxx and Dell. Last time I bought Dells which had the best price. I called Dell and negotiated a better price like I did before. This time Boxx beat Dell by $600 a unit and their machines and service are far superior to Dell.

FYI you can negotiate with Boxx as well.
