Isn't 3ds max 9 already supposed to be a "productivity booster"?
    www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

I absolutley loathe product descriptions like that - so vauge you cant even figure out what the hell it actually does.

Ok, it imports dwg's faster. It shouldnt take 3 paragraphs to say that.

Ene.xis - I know what you mean......I purchased max just for Vray. If Vray comes out for xsi then I would be more than happy to switch even if it means another 3 months of trying to learn xsi and all the extra cost.

I paid subscription this year for my personal copy of max I figured with them owning maya now they'd pull some cool stuff and stick it in max, so it would be worth it for me. If this is the only extension they have planned for this year they better watch their backs. :P

I felt the same way, but it takes a lot longer then half a year to combine two different products. I'm thinking we won't start seeing crossover benefits until next year.

It's classic Autodesk mentality though, I mean why do we see yearly product releases for Autocad, ADT, etc... when all these releases really have are "productivity booster" type enhancements. They just want to create a perpetual motion upgrade machine for more profit, even if it means sticking a 2008 label on a 2007 product. Wow, did I say that?

I feel the same way about the XSI thing. I have XSI at home and use MAX here at work. I would really be interested in a Vray plugin for XSI....i know its been talked about but nothings been said in awhile.

V6 of xsi seems to "open up" SDK-wise to third party renderers (so they tout on the site).
Precisely how, and how much this will affect the work done so far from chaos, is best left to be answered by those in the knows.

I wouldn't mind, though, the idea of a cheap Modo, or similar modelling app, plus max/viz.
Bear in mind it's sure a way to make users pay for bugfixes and things that simply didn't work beforehand, but it's much the same across the board.
Max isn't really squeezed hard for archviz, and has a huge part of itself laying dormant in most projects.
I often find very very few bugs in my daily work.
                              None really a stopper...
Maybe it's just me being partisan, but i did have some personal experience of worst than max...
