  • Unfair hosting

My hosting company used to let me have a whole crap load of features for 80$ canadian a year which included 1gb space.
They used to use cpanel which i loved then changes it to some crap called websiteOS which i hate (they changed with no notification to customer)
Then today i went and checked a forum i run on my site using phpbb only to find it didnt work. when i checked in my crappy websiteOS i could see the folder. then i noticed that they were giving me 2gb rather than 1gb so i got suspicious and checked on their site for what packages they are offering. it seems the package i was paying for which is about 80$ is now their crappy package and doesnt even support php anymore. not perl or mysql or any of the things my account used to support before. I was never notified of any of this.

Its looking like i will need to change hosting companies. I would prefer one in canada since my payment method is usually with a canadian visa. can anyone point me to one thats got lots of goodies, runs on linux server and is a good price?

opps. i posted this in the wrong place. can someone move it to take5

They're not canadian but I've been using hostrocket.com for five years or so now and have never had any problems. Great service, no downtime, they use cpanel, excellent support when you need it. Definitely worth a look.

We have also used 1and1 (before they double prices for 2007) - but bluehost gives you 5 domain names per account, and the interface / log-ins / email accounts are a little easier to use.

If you want to use dreamhost they give you 170gb hosting, 1.7tb of transfers (came in handy mirroring ruairis film) and a free domain thingie - it's 7.95 per month but you can set up offer codes for people - if you use LITTLEBOLLIX as the offer code (made it for one of the guys in work - dont ask) you'll get max discount off and pay $20 for your years hosting and free domain.

Their level 1 hosting is what i'm using:

I love mine overall - have hosted my sites with various places and still come back to this one (including all the people I've recommended to it) -
www.totalchoicehosting.com - $8.95 a month with rocket speeds and they use cpanel.
