  • New web site

For about (7) years now I have been doing my own side work while working a full time job. Finally, in October I decided to leave the studio and finally start my own studio! Have to start somewhere.....very small now but high hopes to grow! So, I recently finished the website (which is only the second site that I have ever done, and really had to do it in little time). It is simple and to the point. I decided to share it with all of you to get definite valued criticism!!! So....here goes......www.stackrender.com. Oh....for any spanish speakers.....the spanish section is not yet ready!

      Good luck cristoforo.

If you need a hand I'll be more than happy to move to Italy!!

The only crit for the web site is the animations didn't play back very smoothly (very stop-start). Could just be my download speed though.

        great images:
        on a side note :

Internet Explorer embedded swf files can cause a nasty bug where the browser places an artificial window around the flash file with the popup ‘Click to Activate’ .
You can get fix this should it occur (IE only- I think) but placing the following piece of code below the embedding html: <script type="text/javascript" src="ieupdate.js"></script> and by placing the javascript file which you can download here http://www.coastal-cottage.com/ieupdate.js in the root folder of your site.

        hope that helps,
        Tom

Yeah....I hate that "click to activate" message. I did find a fix to this (though I think it is different from the fix you are tallking about), which I did use. Though, I had to take it off some of the pages because basically it loads the page a second time. For a light page, it is no problem, you do not even notice the second load. But, for example, the home page, or the page with the animations, you can clearly see the second load which happens after a couple seconds. It was very annoying! I hope this one you speak of is different. I will give it a try! Thanks!

The click to activate is also a problem in Opera as well. I believe its to do with the new flash plugins.

Also cristoforo your website doesnt work in opera either.
All i get is the language menu and nothing else. IE is fine.
You should really fix it for Firefox and opera compatibility otherwise you are cutting out alot of customers there that have smartened up and moved away from IE

DaForce, what does that involve? I'm new to building web sites. Does it have to be completely redone? Can it not be seen in Firefox and others because I did the site in Flash? I hope it is nothing difficult!!!!

Im not sure exactly what is causing it. But i suggest you download firefox and opera, and test.

I havnt had problems with opera and flash before to any significant extent. Your site is pretty simple and shouldnt really have any problems at all.
I imagine its something either in your flash code. The main page html is basically the same as the english page, but yet the flash content doesnt change. And you have very little html code and I cant see any immediate problems with it.

nice site cristoforo, glad you got it up and running!

could your firefox/opera compatibility simply be a typo?
at the bottom of your code, try changing 'embed src="centro.swf"' to 'embed src="centro-hp.swf"'

                  this runs:
                  http://www.stackrender.com/centro-hp.swf

but this don't (and this is the one you are trying to embed):
                  http://www.stackrender.com/centro.swf

...no idea why that should work in IE though, but if you are lucky it'll solve your problem

as for jerky anim playback, there is a way to check user bandwidth, and calculate buffertime accordingly
i think i made a very dirty code for this years back, maybe i can remember some of it...

ignoring Opera and FFox, just talking about the IE here,

you still get the window around the swf movies everytime you rollover them, my solution will get rid of window and message.

                    Cheers,
                    Tom
