prob a stupid question but have to tried to reboot the PC yet? Or DONT delete but rename the 3dsmax.ini file to something like 3dsmax.ini.old and see if it comes up after rebuilding the ini file...

Backup a copy of your 3dsmax.ini and delete it - max will make a new copy when you start it and might come up again.

did you try changing a shortcut to say "D:\3dsMax8\3dsmax.exe -h" of course with the right path?

the "-h" will allow you to change the graphics mode before max starts all the way.

Maybe move all of the plugins out of your plugins folder and see if it boots up - might be something in there causing the problem. otherwise it's a reinstall of max :/

as a test you can try with a default UI config file (from a working machine or from a backup, I mean) sometimes it solves this kind of issues (I know it seems stupid )

obiously, in this way, you lose your custom setup, be careful!

                        from google:

"all you need to do is exit max, go to the directory

                        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Macrovision\SafeCast\Product Licenses

delete the .dat files there and restart max, now authorize it afresh and voila!! "

                        hope it works
