  • Safe Frame for 16:9 in 3DS Max

    Hello all,

can someone help me how to setup Safe Frame for 16:9 ratio?

    Regards

Just use a 16:9 format and then right click on your camera or perspective viewport and choose show safe frame. For pal 16 / 9 I normally use 720 x 576 with a 1.422 pixel aspect ratio in the render dialog. Thats an anamorphic render so it's squished in a little bit but it gets stretched back out by the tv that it's displayed on. Alternatively if you don't want to use anamorphic, use 1024 x 576 with a 1.0 pixel aspect ratio. Longer render times though.

      Hello joconnell,
      thanks for the replay

In the meantime I worked out something, if you setup in output size as HDTV video, shows 16:9 in camera viewport, and you can stil make your own resolution, and leave aspect ratio to 16:9.

Yup indeed - you can achieve the same thing by setting the pixel aspect to 1.0, set your image aspect to 1.778 (which is 16 divided by 9) and then turning on the lock icon beside the image aspect ratio spinner.
