  • MAX quad menu responds slowly

    hello,
got a question guys.....i recently had to cleanup and defragment the hardrive in order to speed up the system and i thought this would solve my problem with the quad menu response in max.

    nope...

...when i right click in the viewport, i have to wait like one sec for a quad menu to appear..its really annoying

do u have any hints or tips how to speed up max?

    cheers for any hint

Defragging a disk will only help application load times and file copying times. Wont do squat once your in the program.
That being said is a good thing to do often.

Anyway, as for your slow quad menu, I would say its to do with your graphics setup. Are you running opengl or D3D? just maybe try switching see if it has an impact.
Have you tried it on various scenes.. including an empty one?

Also bring up the task manager before you try to right click.. does the cpu usage spike at all?

A couple more possibilities, in the "Customize user interface" dialog on the "quads" tab there are some animation settings for the way the quad opens. Otherwise have you added any new scripts or commands to your quads? maybe there is one tat needs to initialize?

Try blowing away your 3dsmax.ini (back it up first) and see if it speeds up...then remove items when you restore it and see if that helps...
