  • Configuring Max Pathes automaticaly ?

    Hello Vray Friends.

I think this has been asked somewhere allready.

I have started in a new company.. juhuuuuu..

now what i wanted to do here right now was to let max 9 make automated a good configured path system for the projects we do here.

i know max does this allready, but how can i tell max, to do a specialised path configuration right up from the start.

also does max save this on each single max file this configuration or do i have to configure it on each project again new. ?

it would be very nice if i could start my max scenes and my phathes would point directly to the folder of my project and using a specialised folder configuration that i need.

    is this possible ?

    greetings Tom

it's not what you want, but at least you can configure your plugins globally:

      http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ht=plugin+path

would be great if the same could be done for other settings aswell though...

maybe you could put maxstart.max on server and have everybody point to that file on startup...not sure how much settings are stored in it though...

not much, but every little helps

hm, i've managed to track down the 3dsmax.ini file for max 9:

        C:\Documents and Settings\'username'\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\9 - 64bit\enu

...but i have been unsuccessful in adding an [include] tag and a path to a remote 3dsmax.ini - like it can be done with plugin.ini

don't know if this has ever been possible, but it would solve a lot of path frustrations regarding network rendering...anyone had any success with a server based 3dsmax.ini?

check this out. in the install.ini set the profile to 0 and it resets the UI to the max folder. otherwise it saves it to users. and if like me, you have lots of users hoping around, its a nightmare to roll out mass changes.

          hope this helps!

            aah, great tip!

i've tried hard to keep an open mind and think positive about the 'user' profiles in max 9 - it never worked, thanks to you, i can now screw it alltogether, good stuff!

regarding mass changes though, i still haven't found a way to make max.ini or install.ini to accept this:
            Code:
            [include]
            remote_max_ini=\\sever\remote_3dsmax.ini
