Did anyone tried to render something on vista x64 and then on windows xp x64? I did and it doesn't look good. On xp I memory usage was around 2,5 GB and on vista... 3,5 GB !!! It's very very bad. vista is all the time doing something on HDD. I'm afraid it migth be another windows millenium case

Vista uses alot more memory thats a known fact. But it does this to speed things up (how well that works is debatable) it tries to keep as much stuff in memory as possible. Plus aero uses a fair bit of memory as well.
You can always fine-tune vista to use alot less memory.

AFAIK when memory available starts getting small vista will start giving back some of its reserved memory.. im not 100% of that but pretty sure.

I really doesnt matter how much memory is in use just as long as it works and doesnt crash

daforce is right. dont look at total mem usage, look at max mem usage. i think its 2.5gb
vista frees mem dynamicly. so my biggest max file was 3.9gb (out of 4gb). it didnt crashed.
      max 9 + vray

I have taken vista off my laptop because it wouldn't render without crashing. I now have xp 32 bit on and it runs like a dream! I am not going back near Vista for quite some time.

very happy with xp64 here - if you need more than 3gb ram. Run it for 1.5yrs now.
