  • which compositing software?

Hi guys, here we need to buy a compositing software to use with 3dmax 9 and vray. Somebody to advise us wich would be the easyer one to intergrate max + vray footage? (combustion?,aftereffects?,nuke?,etc?)

    Thanks in advanced

    Sorry 4 my poor english

i might be severly biased :P But considering VRay i would definately suggest nuke. It is incredibly nice to integrate the two. Rendering to linear EXRs with all renderelements in one sequence/file and having everything at hand with a single read-node is plain great with nuke. Besides having quite a lot more nice things As usual it depends a lot on what kind of work you need to do with it tho.

    Regards,

When it comes to AE or Combustion, that is one thing, but if you can get Nuke or something similar in that respect, I'd take that any day over AE or Combustion.

Tried Nuke - too complicated for me But .exr support just outstanding!
        Use mainly ae.
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

I really like fusion. Never really tried either nuke or combustion. Currently use AE as is alot cheaper, can pretty much do anything fusion can do, and has much better motion graphics I guess.

yeah the motion graphics in AE are far superior than Fusion.
But im loving the particles in Fusion and the 3d cameras and environment. Almost dont need max for some stuff........

AE here. It has a few quirks compared to other node based compositing programs out there but as percy said it can do just about everything they can do (not everything but close) and is significantly cheaper. I'm very happy with it, especially like the pixel motion based timewarp which practically allows me to double the amount of rendered frames.

                  AE here too...

                  Cheap and powerfull...

With Boomer Labs Max2Ae... killer tool... You can have your 3D camera into AE with dummies... You can do everything...

                  Best regards...

                    AE here

I am currently playing around with Nuke - it seems very powerful, but I doubt I'll ever really use the full extent of the node based system, I think it comes into play alot more for Visual Effects work. The 3D capabilities are pretty stunning and fast.

I just came across a script for AE that allows you to use the OpenEXR embedded information. I haven't tried it yet, but then again I haven't been able to get Vray to save the render elements into the EXR file :

Boomer Labs max to AE is a killer tool, Most the people at work here use AE, so it's a must to be able to pass on a project for them to to the final comp work on, great for motion graphics.

Never used Fusion, and combustion seems a bit of white elephant, first used it 4 years ago and they haven't really improved it much since. The max intergration has never been fully realized in my opinion.

Because i think combustion is a dead software...

                          Hmmm . . .

That sucks to hear. Why has/did Combustion die? I thought it is/was a really good piece of software.

                          Cheers,

                            It's just a supossition...

Combustion 4 is an old software and 3 years without an update is a bad sign... I think...

Here at work we switch from combustion to AE... The Production Premium is a great package and very cheap compare to fusion and co.

Fusion and Nike are very very good... But if you compare the prices...

                            Best regards...
