Hmmm, that link looks very similar to the one in Bobby's post

Wow, I'm afraid I am going to have to stringently disagree with you!

To say that Al Gore's film was propaganda and then go and post a link to S. Fred Singer and copy the text from that link and basically quote it as scientific fact when Singer is being paid by "Big Oil" is ridiculous.

        S. Fred Singer is nothing more than a paid patsy of "big oil" and "big tobacco". For God's sake the guy thinks second hand smoke won't hurt anyone. No wonder he thinks global warming, at the pace it is going, is natural and not man made. How could man ever do anything bad, gosh! He is totally unethical and has been outed on CBC showing him for the charlatan that he is. In a September 24, 1993, sworn affidavit, Dr. Singer admitted to doing climate change research on behalf of oil companies, such as Exxon, Texaco, Arco, Shell and the American Gas Association.

        http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php...S._Fred_Singer

The above link shows he is an oil industry contractor.

It amazes me that Singer can go from a paid tobacco patsy to a oil industry patsy, be a supposed expert in both fields (second hand smoke and climate change), and people still believe his garbage!

The scientific evidence for global warming is overwhelming. Just look at the PBS piece that I started this thread with on global dimming. Are you going to try to argue that is not scientific fact? I bet Singer would, for a price or just to be an ass.

Just this past week photos from space of the North pole show that the polar ice cap has significantly melted in just the past 2 years. Scientists from both Canada and the US estimate that by 2030 the polar ice cap will have totally melted in the summer of each year and will no longer be permanent ice. Where is all that water going to go? What will happen to the oceanic currents? Species relying on the ice will die and that will effect other species as in the end we are all interrelated, as much as Humans seem to not want to admit it or just want to care not to.

Hmmm . . . I would love to ask singer these questions! I am sure he would say the water will evaporate into space or fall off the side of the Earth! Maybe we can make tobacco absorbers and soak up the extra water or hold it in plastic containers.

well atleast we are doing our part a bit here

        • The solar water heating industry saves Barbados about $US 6.5 million per year in imported fuel.
        • Inspired by these incentives, the entrepreneurs took the industry forward. Currently, about 32,000 solar water heaters are installed in homes, commercial businesses and hotels in Barbados.
        • For the consumers, the 32,000 solar water heaters save about $US 16 million, under the assumption that they would have used electricity at normal rates to heat the water.
I think that is awesome. A change has to start some where and clearly your country has the foresight to see that need and the necessity of such systems. Better than sitting on your laurels and doing nothing.

I am really a spectator and I listen to both sides. I am not saying one is correct and was isn't. I was listening to a radio broadcast and they mentioned the article I posted. I am not one to believe just my listening, or seeing for that matter.

I wasn't the one that pasted the Al Gore information, at least I don't think I was.

I will check out the above link, thanks.

im thinking of going solar energy for my house as well. the price tag is really high and im stil not 100% sure about the storage capacity (especially since ill be running an office with render farm in my house)

Hrmm.. does Barbados offer a solar grant program? That would certainly help defray your cost to an extent. Storage? Looking to have an emergency backup system? Otherwise you can probably put the electricity you don't use onto the grid during the day and use the credit from your supplier at night; depending on how they operate.

actually i want to more or less go independant. with a render farm and a recording studio i doubt i would have much to put back into the grid

Id like to see more use of solar power and wind farms in the uk although I think a lot of people here need a big wake up call. A lady I know, who is a headmistress from the beautiful city of Hull commented that windfarms should not be built because they are ugly. That mentality needs addressing first off. Recycling still isnt embraced by the masses over here yet, for us kiwis and i know canadians are the same simple stuff like that is part of what makes us proud of where we come from.

Same issues here in the States. Damn NIMBYs.. Not In My Back Yard. People'll agree that we need to start using more renewable energy sources, they just want it.. over there..

Our Architects don't seem to be to concerned, but feel they have to meet the publics needs. You see build green everywhere and clients are starting to ask. We lost a job last month because one of our competitors are basing their work model on sustainable design. It has almost a cult following. This competitor has these water barrels outside of their offices that collect downspout water. The are marketing them for $100, yet they are made of plastic. I was watching a TV show and this family built a green house and was showing off their bamboo floor, which they had shipped over on a boat from some exotic place... how much energy did that boat use... are we getting to political?
