  • Vista, max, vray...?

    Hi all,
is anyone working on a Vista Home Premium system, MAX 9 32 and Vray?

I am interested in Memory managment...Does this system give MAX more than 1.5 gig ram?

I think Vista home premium is still a 32 bit system, but can an application use all 2 (or 4) gig or RAM?

Also, if I upgrade to a Vista Ultimate (64bit?) but install MAX 9 32, will it be able to use more than 1.5 gig RAM?

Any other comments / tips on Vista systems?

    thank you

    ciao

AFAIK 32bit vista allows up to 4GB per 32bit application.

go for a full 64 bit system, there is no reason not to

however id be going for xp64 not vista which eats an extra 700mb of ram for nothing.

        +1

I just bought new workstation and more machines to renderfarm. All running xp64 and doing it really good. I've been working xp64 based machines allmost two years now and haven't got any problems.

Am running Vista 64 8gb ram not a single problem, not a sausage (touch wood)... and I was worried initially.

            Vista Home Premium?

I am asking because I am on a budget, and going 64 is not yet an option for me.
Because of computers' turnover, my workstations and render nodes are off the shelf complete systems, and now I can get a DuoQuad with 2 gig ram for $800, get another 2 gigs RAM, and if that type of system allows MAX to use more than 1.5 gig ram, it's a no brainer.

            Thank you

To be honest im not 100% sure now.

I have looked around the net and nothing is crystal clear.

Your best bet is to get XP 64bit. Are you able to get that..?

Hey Colin: Vista 64 actually works?

if it's 32bit then I guess it won't address more than 2 gigs of memory per application.

yep, you should be able to get to 4 gigs per 32bit app. well, close to it actually.
