  • MR Scene to Standalone VRay 1.5

I am looking for a way to take a MR Scene and render it easily with VRay, standalone or not.

As in my previous post we are looking to going to using Massive in our Pipeline, and it doesn't support vray (only MR). Has anyone had any experience using this kind of workflow with any success at all?

your post does not make sence. Are you looking to render vray scenes in mr? or mr scenes in vray?
Usually there is no way what so ever to render one in another. The code is different, everything is pretty much incompatable. So you will need to pretty much manually convert everything.

You'd probably be better off just using MR when you have to and compositing them together, and if you use the sun/sky it shouldnt be too hard to balance, assuming MR's works the same way.

i think its MR scene to Vray. since massive will export a MR scene im guessing he would like to make it work in Vray. or maybe vlado can make a port to massive in 1 day...VLADO!!!!! where are ya hehehe

It may be possible to convert a .mi file to a .vrscene file as far as geometry goes, there will be problems with shaders; while the most common shaders can be translated, if there are any mr-specific ones, you'll need to code the corresponding vray-specific shaders - including any geometry shaders, which, as I understand, are used when rendering scenes from massive with mr (e.g. the geometry itself is not in the .mi file, it is generated by a mr shader).

          Best regards,
          Vlado

actually no. Geometry shaders are something else. They are used in mr as gateways to access mr's special functions otherwise unavalable to user. The reason they are called geometry shaders, is because they hookup through geometrical objects. Otherwise you are correct.

Hrm. what I initially meant was a scene converter, but a simple script to reorganize the light intensities (which I hear at the same from vray 1.5) and types to VRay lights.

We would like to work with Massive software, but before we make a Massive purchase, we'd like to know if anyone has massive in their pipeline first. Thanks for the feedback.

Ah, ok Is this in 3ds Max or in Maya?
