  • Montreal to Quebec

I am going to Montreal in September and have a couple of days spare at the end of the trip - I was thinking of going to Quebec ? What do you think - would two days be enough to get there, stay the night and then trek back to Montreal ? I'm not sure of the distances or strength of Canadian public transport - I'm hoping it's going to be better then LA though

    I haven't book a hotel yet ( going on 21st September ) where should I stay and where should I avoid ?

Thanks as always for your help

    Hey Adam
By car it will take you 2 1/2 hours to get to Quebec city from Montreal. I would take one day to drive there spend the rest of the day in quebec. The second day you should go and see the Montmorency Falls.
As for the hotel i would just try soemthing close to downtown. All vacations are over by then so you sgouldn't have any problems getting a room for a night. Don't forget to get some maple sirup!!

    Hope that helps.

If you need more info or any help feel free to contact me.

I was on Montreal for a week a couple of months back. Had a great time, saw the jazz festival. Took the train up to Quebec City, about 2:30 hours I think, about $75 if booked in advance. I think we did everything we wanted to do and see in 2 days easy so a weekend would be perfect. The falls are pretty amazing, we took a boat trip over.

My wife and I went to Quebec for our honeymoon, so yeah, I think 2 days would be plenty get up there wander and get back. We took the train from montreal up and back as well and it was a nice trip - can't remember how long but m_hinks is probably right....Stayed at the Chateau Frontenac the whole week and would do it again. We loved the place!

Didn't make it to the falls, though....didn't know about it actually. Guess we'll have to go again. ((EDIT: Just googled it..damn! How could we have missed this?!?!))

Well, you should stay close to downtown, but in Quebec city, you can not go wrong. I never had a bad hotel or a bad restaurant. The city is quite big on tourism, service is really good everywhere....

            Great advice

Thanks for all the great advice - I'm really excited, I had a French Canadian girlfriend once back in Europe, I met her in Amsterdam, ah the joy of youth - it will be nice to see where she was from. I'll work a trip to those falls into the schedule. The idea of going by train is much more appealling then a car - although on holidays cars can be fun, I'm just sick of them from living in Los Angeles.

            Thanks a million as always.

              Canada

I drove to the Canadian and American border last month and they wanted $6.00 to cross. I was fine with the $6.00, but they wouldn't tell me how much to get back accross

well, they sure as heck didn't keep me out!

We usually cross every time we're in Buffalo visiting relatives! But, there was this one time, they searched our car because we drove there from Texas and they profiled us a bunch of gun-totin' hillbillies because of the license plate! LOL

                        Driving and Parking

I am thinking driving to Quebec so I can easily take in the falls, how far is it from Quebec if I didn't have car could I get there easily. Will it be a complete pain in the arse to have a car and drive in Quebec ?

                        Thanks a million as always.

The falls are 5-10 min from Old Quebec. At this time of year, you will not have any problem parking.
