The Area just changed so all the post counts reset. They haven't imported the old posts yet. It's just archived somewhere else. They are actually being pretty active right now, probably just trying to promote the new format.
As far as Max 2008, I don't think you'll have to wait for a service pack if you are already using max 9 productivity booster and are happy with it. I saw the demo and it pretty much looks like it's exactly the same thing. They said they didn't change anything as far as plugins go, so they'll all be compatible, which tells me all they probably did was add a couple little features and call it a release. I hate this new idea that you have to charge everyone yearly for a "new" release. They are only giving us a couple new tools each time, most of which barely even work.
I would much rather them concentrate on smaller features that aren't as marketable, but would make users happier in the long run, like figuring out bugs, making things more useable. Small things like having an unhide preview, or being able to navigate the scene while you are creating an array or bone system. Getting rid of reactor and switching it with Maya's system that they now own. lol
Ok, so that last one probably won't happen but it sure would be nice.
I wish they would pay more attention to useability though. It's ok to change things. The old farts will complain about the change for a while because they don't like people changing their workflow, but if it's better then they'll quiet down after a while.
I guess that's more than my two cents, but I'd really like to see some changes in their business plan.

But I'm starting to fall behind in terms of 3d libraries, materials, tutorials, etc. I sometime receive models from other viz companies, and I am starting to receive Max 9 models. It sucks to have to ask them to send it by as 3DS because we haven't upgraded yet.

The only thing I miss was the ability to import directly images in acad as planes + bitmap in max automatically that seems to have disappeared
also in a long time I think it's one of the quickest and stable combination for importing large cad drawings,
anyone still experiencing slowdowns in max material library with vray (x64) (thats another issue that I've thought that was to be resolved with 1.5 final?) I can't seem to find that post

Hello,
With max 9 and very heavy scenes we've got a terrible bug...
heavy scenes = 2500 cars / 15000 trees / 2500 streets lights / multisub mat with 80 in each... more than 10Billion poly...
The first bug is that the scene is slower with max 9 64Bits sp2 than max 8 SP3... very strange but true... the way to fix it is to lower the number of mats into a multisub...
But when I switch to an upper version, I don't want to lower my settings.
Don't you think guys ?
The second bugs is when I save my heavy scene (140Mb) all instances... sometimes the scene go to 240Mb or 320... sometime 180... without doing nothing...
ANd we max 9 change the file size... sometime when I save without doing nothing the file size change a little bit 1 or 4 Mb lower or higher... without doing anything else... I'm just saving several time...
I've never had those bug with the same files with max8.
Max 9 sucks, it's just my opinion... I don't want to argue more...
Maybe max 2008 is the right version... or maybe I'll be looking to modo or XSI... I'm just kidding....
Best regards...
PS : Sorr my english sux i'm a french frog...
