    There's the demo downloadable.
In general, I wouldn't bother, as surely each new feature will bring some new bug (max 9 is a good example).
On the scripting side they improved the editor, cleaned up a few mishaps, and so on and so forth, but just as I was saying, the editor folds the bracketing wrongly when there's some complexity in the script (mind you, it does identify the brackets properly with ctrl+b, it just folds them in the wrong way...)

      unfortunately very true.
Max 9 was by far the buggiest release in my opinion, a real drop in Quality Assurance, but also was 64 bit which was in my opinion is the best feature so far.

      Catch 22.

I guess if you're a subscriber you might as well install it (just keep the old installs to be safe). If not then I probably wouldn't bother.
The realtime shadows is about the only new feature that stands out and Redviewer can already do that and more.

Gawd, if Autodesk programmers are unable to code properly a script editor I can't imagine the mess they will have with more complex things.
Mind you till version 9 it was a text editor that sometimes colored the code properly

From what i see/read, max 10/2008 is a lot faster (viewport) and more stable in many ways that max9.

I guess until it starts getting widely used we wont know.
Im sure there will be some guinea pigs on the forums who will jump into it and report back any issues

yeah 2008 is quite a lot better.
Viewport speed has been improved and I am getting a lot less crashes than max 9.
                So far so good.
I wouldnt call this max 10................ more max 9 sp3

well now ive tried the demo...

hmm. i have the feeling it realy improves viewport speed, bur i hadnĀ“t the time to test it in real conditions. (at work our computer are by far faster as my old homecomputer).

i cant see the new sceenexplorer is comparable to other applications , but a step to the right direction.

moving temporarily the working pivot, well is better but nothing, but nothing extraordinary, as well as the possibility to select multiple subobjects in poly mode.

the realtimeshadow.. and so on thing, i couldnt testt on my old machine at home.

mental ray. Well as you use it..

characterstudio ? i couldnt test it so far..

not realy what we hoped since max r4..

it still seems to be a dinosaurier to me but well ..

I still love it as the little boy, who says, his mother is the nicest women in wolrld

performance seems quite a lot better indeed. Tried a 20mio poly scene (no instances) and it navigated quite ok (5FPS) on a consumer-board (7950GX2).

I can see some VERY nice stuff in the new scene-explorer actually. RegEx searching beeing my fav :P

The working pivot is a nice addition as is the Multi-Sobobject mode. And if it should have been there before ? Sure, but it wasnt so i'm happy i'll get it :P

                        Regards,
                        Thorsten

the new interactive viewport renderer is awesome.
its not just the shadows but the highlights and falloffs look great, too.
if you switch back to the old renderer it looks like 1980.
                          Reflect, repent and reboot.
                          Order shall return.

try that on something slightly more complex than an sphere and plane, and you'll tell me.
I did on a Ivy mesh, it slowed to a crawl the entire max interface.
and the material was a simple standard with a slight highlight.

It's quicker to render a ppt crop.

Hmm...works fine here. Could even turn it on in the mentioned 20mio scene (admittably that wasnt real fun, but it was just a test). It still worked reasonably fast on a 6mio poly real scene. Reasonably as in 6-10 FPS wich is still navigatable.
