I would find this funny apart from the fact that the last IT manager we had refused to spec me a quad core (2.4ghz q6600) in place of the stock 1.8ghz C2D because in his own words "I am not convinced by them yet, they are not efficient enough". I just had enough one day and had a massive go at him and threw the vray benchmark excel sheet on his desk and said "READ THAT". My guess is that he had got carried away on the AMD usp that a true quad core will be many times quicker than a 'fake' 2x2 quad core. This was at least 6 months ago when the AMDs were still far far far away on the horizon and most definitly an unknown quantity.
It bugged me because he would speak to me in a very condescending manner when he had no practical experiance of my job its requirements or any hardware outside of pre-made server equipment!
Sorry for the rant!

32 cores on a single machine sounds very nice for rendering; but it says later something about water, cloth and hair dynamics, all of which are not as easily parallelized and probably will not use all 32 cores anyways.
Best regards,

I agree. We use a x386 for all our hair calculations.

eventually software will evolve to take advantage of multicores. For now though, some softwares crash even with multiple cores...not a good thing. For rendering though, its awesome.Dmitry Vinnik

For the Amiga? I seem to remember them a looong time ago when those genlock things were all the rage. I am far too young to have actually understood what it was though. Although I didn't really grasp what it was I still wanted one! to an 8 year old me it was just summin cool that Amiga Format used to mention and it had summin to do with 3D and video! haha I miss my Amiga
