  • Links and/or Constraints

Not really VRay topic - but general Max topic.
I'm looking to simplfy my life in mechanical animation by the use of links and constraints. For example, I'm tring to spin out 3 bolts. I make one dummy and set all the bolts to orientation constraint to that dummy - this allows me to rotate the dummy and the bolts rotate around THEIR axis. Now I try and put a position constraint from the bolts to the dummy and they then snap to the axis of the dummy! Looking to keep them in their position but constrain or 'mimic' the positional movement of the dummy. Something so simple - but sounds so complex...Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,

    Brian

    STUPID!!!

OK NEVERMIND!!! Helps if you read the directions:

Keep Initial Offset—Use Keep Initial Offset to preserve the original distance between the constrained object and the target object. This prevents the constrained object from snapping to the target object’s pivot. The default is Off.

    Thanks anyways!!!!

if a subject you wish to post about isn't implicitely about vray, then please post in the take 5/off topic section of the forum. thanks. oh and your forum avatar is requiring some sort of login to view which brings up a windows error. Best bet is to post it on some free image hosting site.
