I don't know if a bigger graphics card will help - I can't open Max when AE 7's open (I get the same error) on my QuadroFX 3500.

Just a thought but are either of you using the 3 gig switch?

            ja using the 3gb switch,
grafik is also QuadroFx 3500... maybe thats the problem?????
@Thorsten, do you mean to turn of openGL in ae? i've done it, and its working at the moment, but the errors appears just sometimes. so can't say if its solved by it.

            thanks

              ja using the 3gb switch
I'm sure I read somewhere that the 3 gig switch reduces the amount of memory that windows can use for the kernel and drivers from 2 gig to 1 gig so it can run out of resources if you have a lot of applications open.

But if Thorsten's suggestion works then stick with that.

I get that error as well, but ONLY if I have large files in AE open and have large files/files with large textures open also in Max. Strange thing is it works fine in 4 view. I just can't maximize the window. It's happened to me a few times. I'm using Max 9, and CS2 vid prod suite. Of course, I had other stuff like photoshop, Lotus Notes (if the devil were software), notepad plus and a few other things open also.

upon restarting and only having AE and Max open I'm usually fine. I think I have the FX3450, but I can't remember. Maybe it's the 3500.

Still, it's a vid card memory issue i'm pretty sure. reducing texture memory size fixed the problem here, and so did restarting. It was probably having problems flushing some of the memory away. It's probably stupid Adobe's fault. It Never lets go of my memory until it's completely closed.
