Ok here what I got. Standard image (buildings) rendered from 3dsmax with all reflections, shadwos etc. And z-depth pass (just grayscale). Now I want to compose those in af to controle with z-depth fog in this image (so building far away will be in fog. I was trying to use 3dfog but for that I need rpf with zdepth and I got only targa for rgb and this z-depth. So what I need to use to comp this right in AF or DF ?

if its just fog you want then you can either use this greyscale z-depth directly using a blending mode or you can use it as a luma mask for a fog video layer with moving fog or something.

Channel bolean
I think in Fusion that it is possible to ad the zdepth to an existing image with the aux.channels in the channel booleans node. Then you can ad fog etc. via the rich pixel fog node.
Another less elegant way of doing it would be piping the greyscale image through a bitmap mask to a colored background image that you merge on top.
Did that help at all?

Well if you have the z channel as a seperate loader it works like this.
(Fusion 4 but should work for other versions as well)
For example, place a color corrector behind your actual image. For testing purpose
I´d suggest you set the color corrector to some extreme value.. like completely
tinting your image into some color.
Switch the color corrector active in the viewport and select it.
Right click in the viewport and select from the drop down "effect mask/bitmap".
On the right side where you have all your Color Corrector Settings, you should now
find a "bitmap mask" within the "Masks" Tab (next to the Tools Tab). There you will find
a field labeled "Drop Tools here".
Drag and drop your z-channel Loader there. Switch the "Channel" option
from "Alpha" to "Luminance".
Below you´ll find two sliders "low and high".
Use these to control your z-channel. Like this you can control every filter
Fusion offers with your z-channel.
cheers,
sam
ps. If you have your z-channel stored within a rpf file.. drop me a line and I
explain that workflow. Has some advantages but also some disadvantages.
