  • Time logging

I am looking for a simple piece of time logging software to run on my PC.

Basically, I need it to prompt me every hour to say what project I have been working on in that last hour. All this information should be saved in a central file somewhere on my computer/network so that I can review it and see how my 'actual' working hours compare to my 'charged for' working hours.

I have found many links to software that is like a stopwatch timer, but that will not work for me - I must be prompted or it will not get done or it will be forgotten about!

Apologies for being so way off topic, but I am really finding it difficult to find such a program through google.

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Kind Regards,

If your mostly concerned with "time in Max" it could be scripted.

I've been using this (http://www.kmrconsulting.com/timeclock.html) for years. It'll prompt you at different intervals whether you're checked in or not. It's pretty simple without a lot of extra features although you can also generate some simple time reports from it. Not free, only $25.
          www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

Its not only for max work so a max script will be of no use. It also really needs to ask me "what have you been working on in the last hour?" otherwise it will just get ignored or forgotten about.

We use a great program called base camp. It's a general organisation tool and it allows you to create to-do lists, post images etc etc and mark time off your projects. I'm unsure whether it'll remind you every hour, you may be able to set something up. Again, I'm pretty sure it's not free.

Otherwise, buy a watch with an hourly alarm and use a pencil and paper?

if you use widgets then there's a decent start. Look up "Daily Billing"

I've changed it to look better. It's hideous, but my scripting skills aren't that great, so I wasn't able to change many of the features.

The downside is the files are saved to a nearly incomprehensible format. I changed that a little, but it's still really rough. The other problem is that it saves each day to a new file, but you can choose the location, which is nice.

It can do several projects at once, which is nice.

Anyway, it's a good start, but it's not awesome.

I've looked into basecamp, and a few others. I'd rather have a piece of software that's on my computer that doesn't use the browser though. And/or doesn't cost money. This is such a simple application I can't believe someone hasn't done it for free.

The big thing I'd really like is some things that the online versions have. A collaborative option. It'll keep track of notes, times for different people, percent of completion, and other options. We don't have budget for keeping track of that though.

Let me know if anyone uses the Daily Billing. If you are interested I can give you the code I've attempted to update along with my appologies for probably messing up here and there.

Personally i use a combination of autohotkey www.autohotkey.com and ToDoList http://www.codeproject.com/KB/applic...todolist2.aspx

                  That, and old fashioned paper

I don't know what I'd do without AutoHotkey. I use it for Tons of stuff.
