  • Another "New system" post...

Hi there people, sorry if this is posted before but i could not find a matching one.

i'm planning to buy a new comp for personal use. but also i would like to do some 3D.

i'm pretty sure i'm going for the Q6600 processor, price quality seems very nice from what i have read.

The videocard i think i'm going for an asus8800 GT 512mb. but also i'm not sure about this.

now the motherboard is not sure, there is much choice and i dunno realy what the pro's and cons are. i'm going for an asus btw.
the ones i have seen are for example:
asus Striker Extreme (supports SLI, 680I chipset) most expensive
asus P5K-E wifi (P35 chipset) cheapest
i realy don't know and cannot find what the difference is, perhaps any1 can shed some light on this?

say if i go for the P5k-E can i thow in all ddr2 memory? or do i have to get a specific speed ?

any recommandations would be very welcome.
    mant thanks in advance!

    have this at home

ive got this setup at home
not bad for max - the workstations at work make it look sad though, but hey for less than $2k Aussie dollaroos its great.

im using the asus p5k deluxe wireless, q6600, 800 ddr2 with 5-5-5-15 CAS
8gb ram in vista ultimate 64bit
the gt8800 is great value and storms in max - no quadro $hite for me
bios is great for overlocking, just maker sure you get matched ram

ive got the zalman 9600 and can run @ 3.2 on air no probs rendering all night
3.4 im a bit worried about motherboard temps but ive no front van, only cpu and case fan.

    hope this helps

after reading all specs of the p5k-deluxe it seems it supports ddr3 memory. but i also see this is much more expensive then ddr2. is this worth the money?

or should i look at the mobo that support ddr2 ?

from what i read ddr3 has no real performance benefits yet and its waay more expensive
          id stick with ddr2

if you go 8gb i think you are limited to 800 speed, havent heard of anyone getting more then 800mhz and +4gb to work
