  • 3D People & bip files

We purchased some 3D rigged people from AXYZ some time ago with associated bip files.

Is it me or is it difficult to work with these things ?

I have the model connected to the bip file but even moving the model with all the associated sketal things attached is not easy.

    Am I missing something ?

    Thanks

    Difficult how?

Character Animation, to do right, is probably the most difficult thing to do in CG.

I don't mean proper character animation - I mean taking a premade model of a person and applying a bip file to it so that it moves - walks, talks on a mobile etc... I'm not talking about Gollum.

All I want to do is move the thing without out things going everywhere.

Attached is a model which has had the bip file attached and grouped so that I can move the model BUT, then the further I move the dude from where it was originally, the chin extends !!!!!

          WTF ?

Well 2 things. first of all the screenie looks like it isnt properly skinned, but could also be part of the second thing: You are usually not supposed to move the biped AND the mesh. (The mesh is controlled and deformed by the biped. So moving BOTH of them offsets the mesh realtively to the biped wich is not a good idea at all ) Did you try simply moving the upmost parent (and ONLY this bone) of the biped without grouping or multi selection ?

              Kind Regards,
              Thorsten

                Your Guy got off easy...

I've had a history of biped mutilated models...I think I might make a coffee table book of them!

it's all about the weights and envelopes, for quick and dirty skinning it helps if your bone objects are a little bigger than the mesh, For that chin vert, just select the head of the biped got to edit the envelope and just paint the weight to 1.

looks like scene scale issues there.

and yes all you have to do is to select the one vertex and set the weight to 1 as eric said.
                      isn't so dramatic imo.
