  • Enlighten - Realtime radiosity engine

Interesting... pretty cool video at link.

As part of the build up to GDC 2008 we have relased a video highlighting some of the workflow benefits of Enlighten. This video features real-time footage of our Lead Artist Ivan Pedersen using Enlighten to re-colour and re-light a world.

"Radiosity" means that it does the GI by using vertex coloring, right?

Not neccesarely. Radiosity is just another method of solving energy transfer related equations, but in most cases the mesh used to gain the radiosity solution is usead as a vertex colored base to look up the solution. I don't think this game engine uses meshing like that to store, and to compute the solution in any way, since it would be a waste of precious memory, more like some screenspace sample buffer, or I don't know...

Impressive. "real" GI is on its way to gaming. Combined with ambient occlusion shaders thing like this sure can bring some realism to dynamic game scenes.

        Best regards,

        A.
