What would we do without Mythbusters to tell us what should be obvious to everyone to begin with...

unfortunately it seems mythbusters doesnt know much about the formation of waves in the ocean or the speed a surfer needs to go at to catch the wave

Well, without knowing a thing about surfing, energies on a planetary scale, like those of winds, are humongous when summed up for scale and time of application.

They still made it fairly clear to everybody with the 200 pounds tnt explosion, and managed a 10 minute episode out of it

well without knowing the bed of the lake they used in both cases we dont know if either have the right change in depth to cause a wave to crest and break. i still think its a fake but there is still a possibility (very slim) of it being real. but if its fake id looooove to know who did the compositing on it. they are probably under a huuuuuuuuuge NDA not to talk since they want to keep this as an urban legend

Camera tracking, and compositing real waves and a real surfer over the untroubled waters?
                        Forget the lake bed, mate.
Energies are WAY out of scale.

Eheh, I never did, I just had to sit through a few years of physics and chemistry at high school, solving problems like (and I kid you not!) "mom wants to prepare a turkey with some potatoes in the oven. The turkey is 2.5 kilos, the potatoes are 1.5 kiloes, the oven is a standard gas one, the weather is nice and sunny. Assuming standard insulation coefficients for the oven, for how long should mum let the turkey and potatoes cook?"
And so on and so forth
That gave me a pretty clear idea on how to cook a turkey with an A-bomb.
