  • KVM switch

    Hey every one, hoping that one of the computer guru's here can help me.
    Im faced with the delemma:
    I got two boxes, and I need to use KVM switch to switch between them. However, the problem is, that one of the boxes does not has PS2 connector for the mouse. So, I need a KVM usb switch? I looked some up, it seems all of them eather have only usb ports and no PS2 ports, or have just the ps2 ports and no usb ports. I kind of need both, since my keyboard is ps2.
    Or should I just get a usb switch, and a ps2 to usb adaptor?
    Thanks!

    @Morbid Angel

    Belkin has some products that with both PS2 and usb connectors.

    I use the last one but I am not too satisfied with the video signal because it has tiny tiny flickering, so I don´t use it for my workstations. But it´s great for my render nodes.

      Both are "workmachines"?

      if not, a simple software solution, like VPN, does the job (really usefull if, like me, some of your machines are 5 floors below)

        VPN, or just RDP (Remote Desktop).
        I use RDP alot to check things on renderslaves or to convert a CAD drawing for 3dsMax

          Hey Dmitry - Have you looked at Synergy? If you can spare the deskspace, just add a third monitor and use Synergy to control the computer using KM-over IP. So fast there's zero lag, and almost never goes down.

            thanks guys, I sorted it out. I just got an all usb kvm, and a ps2 to usb converter for my keyboard. Worked fine
            Exept the kvm is picky where you plugin the mouse and keyboard, i.e. I plugged them into opposite slots first and it didnt work.

              I use a belkin flip usb kvm and it will only work correctly if I boot up 'machine 1' and immediatley turn the switch over to 'machine 2' as 'machine 1' boots, once it has booted up I then flip it back to machine 1 and then login to windows, similarily if I need to boot machine 2 up I have to make sure that the kvm is set to machine 1, I also avoid moving said mouse during bootups, weird yes, took me a few hours and a load of failed boot ups to arrive at this outcome.
