  • detaching elements in max...

I know this must be possible, but I cant figure out how to do it

Ive got an editable poly object with a few hundred completley closed elements in, and I want to detatch them, but each as a seperate object. So then ive got hundreds of objects and each one a single closed edit poly object. One by one is not really an option.

I feel like an idiot posting this because I know it cant be that difficult, i just cant find the button to do it...

There must be a script to do it but I cant remember it's name, meanwhile you can try to convert your editable poly to editable mesh, select all the elements and explode it using a threshold of 180 or so.

Yep. Its possible and really easy with a script called objectDetacher from Neil Blevins. Download his collection of scripts at http://www.neilblevins.com/soulburns...ction_v032.zip and follow the install instructions at http://www.neilblevins.com/soulburns...urnscripts.htm ...

Once you try it out, leave your feedback about the script and/or give it a point at http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/objectdetacher
