  • Visibility Toggle based on two objects location

    Hiya All

I'm working on a project that uses light projecting planes to form text, there are lots and lots of them. What I am trying to do is to find a way that I can toggle a planes visability on and and off based on another objects location. Basically I am trying to do the same thing as the slicer object but without having to collapse my planes into a single object. I thoguht that the Blinders script from Blur would help me but it's not happy working with my version of max - 3dsmax 9.

Thanks a million as always for your help.

hmmm, not sure if it'll work but have you heard of the scapel plugin by Cebas? Similar to slice but more powerful inc multiple objects.

Probably easy enough with a script controller on an object - will this fuck up gi rendering though if objects go on and off?

If you animate the objects visibility controller so it appears in track view you can assign an script controller to it - pretty much what you do is assign a value to the x position (for example) of a controller null and then set the script to check if the null position is greater or lower than the object, if it is return a value of 1 (object visible) otherwise 0 (invisible).

      There's a wee example up at www.joconnell.com/forums/vis_based_on_pos.zip

Sweet guys thanks a million - I'll check these out. I was up working until 4.30am on this Shizzle. The look we have going sort of glorifies popping GI - Thank God, I will post a few frames when I get it second - it looks pretty sweet when you get it right, if your setting are off you get some crazy effects though - totally 70's Disco.

        Thanks again
