  • Slice plane animation in max

I'm animating an object building up by using a lot of slice planes and particles over different objects, but the slices flicker all over the place when I render them - the mesh jumps around sometimes.

Ive changed it from polygonal mode to triangle based slicing, but it's still doing it a bit. Anyone know of a good way to fix it? Or to animate an object in a similar method that doesnt take a ridiculous amount of time?

It's gone pretty smoothly so far, just these odd flickers that wont go away

I've seen this done successfully with ProBooleans. Its also possible by using animated clipping planes in a camera....but that has obvious limitations.

subdividing your mesh (as much as your computer can handle) before slicing it might work.

I think clifton santiago posted a link a few days ago to a plugin you can buy that does a better job than the built in functions.

edit: can't seem to find the post now. Anybody else remember it?

cebas has really bad customer service. I gave up on using their product after many un-answered emails.

Second that on the bad service. We wanted to upgrade PsdManager... but never a response.

Great plugins, just bad customer service.

All the shots are being re-timed now aswell, although I dont know what to, the only english speaking client is away until thursday and the boss is away until saturday so I cant run a purchase by him. And the deadline is next wednesday :/

This is going to be so much fun, haha.
