    Hi,

I have an animation done in max using v-ray and I assembled it in AvidExpressPro. It looks good, but when I try to convert it to an avi or wmv the animation becomes washed out. I tried to export the animation out of MAX an an AVI, but it was almost black. I am missing something!

    Any help would be appreciated.

For best output I would recomend a post compositing packedge such as after effects. This can ensure best quality output with lots of controls.
Render your animation from max in image sequence such as tga or png and then convert it to avi with your codec of choice in after effects.

        After Effect

$999.000 a little pricey for stringing together some png's. Any less expensive (free) ways?

you can actually do it right inside of max with the RAM player if you want, not the best, but it's "free"

          It's under Rendering>Ram player

if not the ram player then the video post as well (which you can use to edit and composit with)

              Ram Player

I tried the ram player, but it was almost black with psychedelic colors. I am trying Combustion... any compression tips?

do you have the global lighting or exposure control setting changed and have you tried the video post? when you open the png in photoshop does it look normal

The File plays back okay in AVID??
If so then there is an issue with your avid setup.
If not then look at the files you have rendered out of Max in the RAM player and see if they are okay there. PNG has alpha issues with some programs, we use AE and have no issues.

Bobby....I suggest seriously looking one of the Adobe suites. I assume you use Photoshop and you can get the Production suite for like around $1500 or so..I know expensive...But our company was buying three separate installs for the longest time. But it definetly sounds like something in Avid.
