  • Frustrated with AutoDesk

Just found out annoying news today...I use max9 and am not ready to upgrade, yet. However, I have just 1 seat of max and am starting to need to purchase a second. The dilemma is that Adesk won't just charge me $xxxx to add seat. I have to buy a whole new seat of the 3dsmax2009 (current version.) I couldn't even buy max2008! This would leave me with 1 max9 seat, and 1 max2009 seat. Not too useful IMO, so I'd then have to pay them another 1750 USD to upgrade my existing max9...to summarize, I'll have to pay $5250 to get another seat of max (and keeping version compatibility.) Along with this would come all the hiccups that often accompany software upgrades, right in the middle of several projects, Yay!
    Sorry, rant over.

cant you just install max9 on your second pc and use the license codes of the new 2009 for it and authorise it that way? or is that illegal?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Good question, I just thought it wouldn't work if i tried it as it's likely to be version specific...maybe worth a call, though...

the code formats seems to me pretty much the same over the years - 3 numbers and then 8 numbers, or am I wrong? only thing they might complain its against their license policy.....

Why is this configuration not too useful? Presumably Max 9
does what you need it too so all you need is to work out a
pipline that ensures moving files from 9 to 2009 only
            if necessary!

            Regards

Only not ideal because I'm not at a point of upgrading in the middle of several jobs, just need another seat.

Here's an excerpt from the reseller after I asked them about DVP3D's suggestion....

              "...
You can do what you are describing below with a small amount of effort and one requirement.

Autodesk allows you to purchase a NEW seat (the 2009 version) and then activate it as a Previous Use Version. We will just have to fill out the attached form when you are ready to purchase and submit it along with the purchase. The ONE requirement is that this new seat be on Subscription to approve this previous use.

I will pull together a quote for you tomorrow so you have all the costs and details that you need."

              Thanks for the suggestions, friends
