work station died

Any body any tips for getting dead workstation to boot up.....
Switched it off earlier to restart but now wont switch back on again.
All I'm getting is a fast blinking blue light under the power button with no other signs of life.
Any comments welcome

remove power cable, wait a bit then plug it back in.
if that does not work. remove the battery from motherbord, wait a couple of minutes then put it back.

if that does not work, try a different powersupply.
but you say you have blue lights flashing, so i'm guessing powersupply is not the problem.

Good suggestions but....
no beeps
tried the power cable out for over an hour...plug back in again flickering blue light nothing else.
Can't try the battery option the IT guy just has just taken it home to give to the guy who built to see if he can get her running again.
Just have to wait till monday now.
Lucky though ....last weekend really busy this weekend not so busy

If you are not getting any beeps that means your motherboard isn't getting any power. If it isn't the power supply or cord then you might have a dead motherboard. Good new! You can get a new computer now

Just as a side tip....you don;t have to unplug the power cord and wait....you can unplug it and press the power button to drain all the power out of the system. Beats waiting....

Not true. Not every motherboard beeps.

I've seen this happen quite a few times. If the blue light remains, this means power is getting to the motherboard. Your hard drive is probably fine. If youre not getting into BIOS or start screen, then the problem lies with one of three things:

1) memory
2) processor
3) motherboard

I think your CMOS battery should work just fine - if it goes dead, I think you'd still be able to see a BIOS screen but everything would just be reset at the clock.

I'm guessing it's a memory issue. Try swapping out a stick or two, and removing one or two swapping and see if you can get it to boot.

If you smell burnt plastic/metal (or heard and cracks) it's probably the processor then.

As for motherboards, I've never had one go 'bad' on me - either they're usually bad from the start or they work as intended. I've also seen motherboards go bad because people stuck wrong RAM in them or screwed with overclocking their systems.

Thanks for the replys guys, turns out it was the power pack ....all back to life again .....nice reassuring sound of spinning fans.
