I put Vista 64 Ultimate on my home machine, because I wanted to try it out (I didn't believe it could be that bad). I really like the look of it and it works fine most of the time, but I'm having terrible problems with networking and connecting to the internet. It's driving me mad so I'm probably going to downgrade to XP 64 (I believe you can do this with Ultimate). I'm just glad I put it on a home machine, not a work one.
I used to use vista 64bit at home, and it was pretty good - I cant think of anything that didnt work, had a few issues getting stuff going but it was all ok in the end. Until I spent about £2k on new audio hardware and it wouldnt work with 64bit vista...
It was off faster than you could say 'format', back to standard xp.
ultimate 64 at work on a mixed XP32,XP64 and ultimate 64 network. No problems apart from the "nvldmdkm has stopped and recovered" Nvidia error which i fixed by removing 2 files from my max2009 stdplug folder.
I run Vista x64 SP1 on two of my Home computers, my workstation and my HTPC, haven't had much to complain about except for one, the workstation, loosing it's lease from the router occasionally, not sure what is causing that. I do love how fast they go to sleep and wake up.
Would it work networking a 32bit XP
and a 64bit Vista machine for DB rendring?
I suppose the 32bit render slave would run out of memory right away though...
