Building new comp....please HELP

Hello everyone,

I would like to kindly ask u for help with picking parts for a new comp i am building...i have no problem with some parts, however i am struggling with motherboard and RAM

I want a good spec MOBO with overclocking features and 8GB RAM

however

i know some boards r simply sruggling when all the mem slots r occupied, furthermore there can be some problems with overclocking as well

i was gonna go for ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA with X48 chipset, but when i have looked at QVL, i have not found any decent RAM trere that would go with the board....the only decent 2GB ram module was only clocked at 800Mhz....and i wanna go for 1066MHz one....

Any suggestions here?

Ive got a P5W 64 bit WS Pro, and its a great mobo. It comes with a special feature in bios where you can specify an overclocking profile. Basically you say, overclock by 30% and all corresponding things like ram and cpu frequency are automatically adjusted.
I also got another box with P5K Delux, and that has no overclocking options, and overclocking it manually, the ram has issues...

I am running a q6600 steadily (no crashes) @ 3.2 Ghz on a p5K it has 4 slots populated with 2GB modules, can't remeber exactly what the mem clock is at. I've read a lot about the p5's and most of it has been good, I am happy with mine, one thing though is I have the regular board with the cheap cooling and the chipset always hovers around 46 deg, I'd recommend their top board with the better cooling.

hello rerender...which sort of mem sticks do u use?
6400(800Mhz) or 8500(1066)...just wondering....if u had a littel time to check...

anyway....i will probably write to asus forum to find out about using 1066Mhz as i have read they might overstess the northbridge too much and thus not letting u overclock (if u manage to boot with them at all)

I am running OCZ Gold 6400 at 960Mhz, would another 100Mhz break it? Dunno

right so thats 800Mhz overclocked to 960....will probably aim for 6400 rather than 1066 which could strain the north bridge too much probably.....bad thing is that u cannot really rely on what mobo specs say....sometimes it say it supports 8gb and it simply wont boot .....will def go for ASUS mobo and intel chipset....just considering x48 and p35...not gonn await for eaglelake p45 as it is simply bug fixed p35....sort os a downgrade from x48 as i ve read...

You could still go 1066 and try it, if it won't go you could probably underclock the ram and tighten up the timings a bit. I haven't read much about them but the p5E's say they can run memory at 1200 Mhz...

why not choosing dual mobo, supermicro or tyan ? ( no overclocking there i think ) but higher performance per machine .

I built a render node a couple months ago with an Asus P5K-E ($149 USD) MOBO, 8GB 6400 Mushkin RAM. Not overclocked but it has been purring along without a single crash since it first booted up. One of the least painful installs I have ever experienced.

I am deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and DFI, with Asus being my favorite even that i know from my own experience their O.C. software doesnt work properly and Asus Probe2 and asus ACPI utility r completely useless and just make a lot of mess in your system.

What makes my decision even harder is ASUS memory QVL lists, where there is not many boards showing compatible 2GB mem stick compatibility and if yes, they r not in double dual channel compatibilty.....

i know that those boards r compatible , still don understand why in the hell they dotn write it there
