NPR Trees

I need to make a masterplan model and I'm wanting to go the NPR route.

I was looking for examples of abstract trees for inspiration but couldn't find any... anything from chamfer-cubes to wavy planes would do...

Can anyone remember any animations or stills that use a clever approach to representing trees and planted areas?
