  • 3d car scanning services ?

    Hi Guys,

Does anyone know/recommend a 3d vehicle scanning company in the UK. We need to scan in one vehicle and make sure the data is clean and organised and also have the data output to an IGES file.

Im not experienced in this field, so any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Steve

I doubt anyone can do 3d surfaces in iges, you would more likely end up with a mesh or point cloud. and if you need to render it you probably have to re model the car using the scan as a reference. The scan itself will not be smooth enough for rendering.

Ok, thanks for the info. The guy im working for thinks that possibly the data can be cleaned up by an external company, but im personally not sure how accurate and sharp the details would be after that.

That depends on the amount of work put into it :P

Iges can contain Surfaces btw. An example for reverse engineering would be polyworks and similar Packages. Here's a CaseStudy of scanning a car and converting it to fitted Nurbs-Surfaces :

          www.aprservices.net

they were slow to reply but helpful and understand what is needed
rough quote was 9k for cleaned up nurbs of outside and inside - high res
(thats pounds not polys, ho ho)

project went to someone else so no idea if they are good though

of course iges can contain surfaces, what I meant is nobody can scan directly too it.. atleast not without making a huge mess.
