  • png strangeness with gamma

I use a lot of bitmaps from Arroway. Most (if not all) of these files are png files. Very often, when I load the bitmap files into my material editor, they are very much overbright, as though the gamma is being doubled up or something. This does not happen with jpegs, tiffs, tgas etc - only occasional png files.

Does anyone else experience this? I am not the only one in the office with the problem.

I have gamma set to 2.2, affect material editor ticked and input gamma at 2.2
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

Yep, me too with Arroway textures. Haven't had time to finger it out myself.

Yep - png keeps gamma information from whence it came so there's a good chance it is already gamma 2.2 encoded.

when you load it in set the gamma option in the load dialogue to be "from Max" not "from file"
