  • FYI VRML still alive and saved my live. But then Autodesk mess...

    Hi All

I'm working in Max 2009 64bit. So I had 3 different file formats from the client for the same object including textures. 1st One opened fine(ish) but bit low poly and no mapping coords. 2nd opened fine but was only wireframe and also no mapping coords. Final file was VRML and suprise suprise Autodesk decided to mess us around again. Apparently in any 64 bit max version there is no VRML import! So I had to go back to Max9 32bit on another machine to be able to import the file. Poly count was acceptable for my use and it was mapped nicely!

The VRML file was the only way to get the file properly into my scene and in future this is the format the client will probably provide. So thank you again Autodesk, but dont worry the end-user will yet again take one for the team, although I dont know how many hits I can still handle!
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Just in case you need this again and are not aware of it: You can install 3ds max 2009 32-bit in addition to the 64-bit version (no need for another machine).

yes I know thanks, but just the fact that it wastes more time to install it and then switch between the 2 to open and save files, is a pain. So something that took a few soconds previously, now takes 100 extra steps to get same result.
      Kind Regards,

From what I understand, Autodesk used a 3rd party library for the VRML importer; unfortunately the library in question was not recompiled for 64-bits by its developers.
