  • Backup Software

    Hi

We have a program installed which backsup our server to a number of drives but it can be quite tricky to setup. Anyway, we are looking for something which is pretty simple and as fail safe as possible.

Another thing is that we have backup drives in remote locations which we copy to drives in work and then physically go to these remote drives however, instead of taking a bulky external hard drive all the time, we think that transferring the info by flash disk would be better.

What is everyone using for backup software ?

    Thanks

    N

I use SyncBack for syncronising files between work-laptop-home, and at home for backup, and the software that was bundled with the Western Digital external hard drive at work which seems to work quite well. I'd strongly recommend you look at SyncBack though, I haven't looked at a lot of the features but it's been around for ages and is pretty damn solid for what I use it for.

Syncback SE is what we are using presently. Are you using the SE version or the full version ?

Also, do you know if it syncs work > usb flash disk > home ?

I am in the process of looking into it further.

        Backup

Moxyhome, on-line backup here. Works great, cheap, and has already saved me twice.

            Mozyhome

It uploads while your machine is idle. I am not sure how fast it uploads, but I know I have several gigs backed up and I never experienced anything.

Just wondering - we have about 100 gigs for example to upload initially and then each day there will be approx 2 or 3 gigs to add or subtract in data traffic. Is this the way you have did it to begin with ie; upload alot at the start ?

I also use SyncBack in my training centre. It's an absolute breeze to set up and it runs automatically in the background once you set up a schedule. Apart from backups, it can also do a full synchronization between folders to ensure that they have the identical content. I also use it at home to backup to an external USB drive.

Of all the options I looked at, this one is by far the simplest and easiest to use. And it works.

                I'm using the free version.
