  • How overclock Xeon E54xx

    Hi guy

i've found a secure method for overclock Dual Xeon E5440 via software with supermicro X7DWA-N (this MB support FSB 1600)

    download this software

    LINK

    Set ICS932S421BGLF or ICS932S421EGLF
    Set ULTRA ON
    Press Get FSB
Move the long slider for change FSB
My RAM is 333Mhz so with 400Mhz windows restar. I succesfully set 360Mhz.

    that's all

    My test is

    17min 31 (@2.83) sec vs 16min11 sec (@3.00)

i know that is a little change, but with 400Mhz RAM i hope to overclock 3.2 and up!

    E5405 - 2GHZ FSB 333
    E5410 - 2,33GHZ FSB 333
    E5420 - 2,5GHZ FSB 333
    E5430 - 2,66GHZ FSB 333
    E5440 - 2,83GHZ FSB 333
    E5450 - 3GHZ FSB 333
    X5450 - 3GHZ FSB 333
    X5460 - 3,16GHZ FSB 333
    E5462 - 2,8GHZ FSB 400
    E5472 - 3GHZ FSB 400
    X5472 - 3GHZ FSB 400
    X5482 - 3,2GHZ FSB 400

I generally dont overclock stuff. I think the extra speed would hardly be noticeable at the possible cost of melting the cpu eventually. Too much risk in my opinion.

Me too . I run stable on 3.2 with 1hrs render. There is a 10% increment in render speed, but +10°C and much more risk.

But now also Xeon can be overclocked

      Ciao

Try to lower the mem speed in bios or change the FSB/MEM ratio to have slower ram at start up.

There is btw something called the FSB wall, which depends on your chipset and mainboard. I have a badaxe2 and i can increase the FSB in small steps only to ~360mhz - and the next step would be about ~400mhz and more, but since i'm on air i don't even test it.
