  • 3Dconnnexion_who uses it?

hi, since yesterday i use my 3dconnexion space navigator. after some practice i got used to it more and more, but i can`t see the big benefit yet.
haven´t found out until now if it´s possible to activate the adaptive degradation, otherwise moving cameras in big scenes is quite slow.
has someone generally hints for me how it is usefull to work with this in 3ds max?

Using the space navigator and loving it.

Great for swirling around your object when modelling in max, you dont need to let go of you current tool and selection for pressing ctrl-R. twist-model-turn-model-spin-model

It is also nice for texture/ displacement painting in other apps too.

I put my spacenav. infront of the keyboard so the keyboard shortcuts is newer far away.

TIP: Tweak your settings to your liking.

my 3. day now with the space navigator and i have to say that i begin to like it.
especially since i found the "lock to 3d view" so that i don`t loose my ortogonal views all the time and adjusted the translation+rotation scales to fitting settings.

I got that one half year, but for my is not really good, maybe becouse i prefer short cuts on keyboard, and somethimes when i move with camera in scene i can`t click rendo :/

I think spacenavigator is not good for massive scenes or visuals, but just for modeling is nice becouse slow ? (<- This is just my opinion)

          Hi,

I also have the SpaceNavigator and it´s truely great for modelling in max. I have tried it in other apps. but it doesn´t work for me - except in Google Earth

I have one but don't use it however. It just seems like I have more control with the keyboard shortcuts.

I used one for a while, but it really wasn't very useful for me. It was nice to be able to move a camera without having to switch back and for between tools, so for animating cameras it was nice. Otherwise I found it to be useless for me.
If you have to pan around a lot and don't know about the "i" pan then I can see it being really useful. But since I crashed MUCH more with it, I've since abandoned it.
I'd recommend against using it since I see it as more of a convenience than a tool that makes you more productive, but that's just my opinion.
