  • Syncing audio to animation : not possible with quicktime?

Ok, I (think) I'm losing my mind here!
What should be a simple task is proving to be impossible; Sync some animation to some audio and export a quicktime without loosing sync. I have tried every method of producing a quicktime movie I can think of, on multiple PC's and Mac's, but no joy.

The weirdest thing is, that when I open the .mov in Premier, its able to playback the file with the audio synced, but with either quicktime, or quicktime alternative, or VLC, the audio is out of sync.

Am I trying to achieve the impossible?

I've attached a sample audio and video clip that are synced in AE. I challenge anyone to produce a QT file that keeps the audio synced! Please! Give it a try!

    Good luck, and thanks!

what if you make an avi or wmv and then convert it to quicktime just for a test?

I bet the source audio file is in an odd format

what codec are you exporting to and how long is the movie?
is it for lipsync so you need frame accuracy??
      -never had any problems myself

No improvement when converting from wmv.

I've checked my settings repeatedly. The source audio is uncompressed wav or aiff 44Khz, AE project is 44Khz, Saved to Quicktime with 44Khz. I have also tried all the above at 48KHz.

I can't see that its a problem with the source audio as when I save the sequence as WMV it plays back in WMP perfectly in sync.

The reason I need tight sync is I'm animating text in AE to match the beat in the audio track. I know its best to add audio to animations outside AE, but I can't do that in this case as the animation is timed on the audio, not the other way round which is more often the case (ie sound effects).

Very strange... I'll stick with WMV in the meantime and find someone on a mac that convert it to MOV for me.

Think I've grown a few more grey hairs over this!
