  • Modeling Kerbs

    Hi

Does anyone have a tried and tested method for modeling kerbs so that there is control over the mapping of kerb stones in such a way that they curve around bends ?

we have a couple of methods which use the loft tool and the sweep modifier but neither are perfect - if the sweep modifier had the Length Repeat option which the Loft tool has - all would be grand but, it doesn't.

    thanks

I usually do a sweep with a custom profile (or even just a rounded rectangle) and use real world map sizes on it. The material is usually a tile map to create some joints at regular intervals with a dirtmapped concrete.

You tried the spline mapping thingy in Max 2009? It kinda does that.

Unreal, I thought I had tried everything ! Thanks, just add a few tweaks to the tiling parameter in the material map settings and its sorted !

        Thanks

I mostly use dlparisi's way, except with the Loft tool.

We have always had a problem with kerbs/curbs/kurbs. I will give the spline mapping a go.

You model in autocad right? Just draw plines for all of the curbs as necessary and sweep those in max. Put an "Edit spline" prior to the sweep to reverse/flip curbs as necessary. After that add an edit poly to tweak for curbcuts and pedestrian ramps.Works great IMO. Haven't tried spline mapping though.
