Time to upgrade sooon I've heard some grate opinions about mac performance lately and was thinking to leave pc ship and go to mac one. I compared the prices for same config fro BOXX and MAC PRO :

Well, if it's half the price for the same hardware... And imo, Mac Pro chassis has a great design, both aesthetically and structurally.

do u plan to have it windows based only? or do u plan to use Parallels Desktop?

ive seen some major productivity issues with comps running parallels!

i would rather put together a workstation myself than paying for something extra...

Which brings up the next question...
How does one go around configuring a Mac Pro for use with 3dsMax and VRay? Do you install XP/Vista on it and use the performance of the Mac hardware?
If so, wouldn't it be cheaper to make a PC with the same hardware?

You install bootcamp and during booting you can choose if you wan to work with windows or mac os. From what I've heard mac pro with 3dsmax will smash anything else in same price range, plus it will be much more reliable and stable.

i thought i'd chime in on this...
our studio just recently bought our second generation macpros for running 3ds max and vray. the 1st generation workstations were great, these dual quad cores are even better. my macpro workstation is included in the benchmarks found here: http://www.3dspeedmachine.com/?page=3&scene=13 and here http://www.3dspeedmachine.com/?page=3&scene=20 though that particular vray scene file doesnt have much to compare to yet.
just to clarify you do not even need bootcamp to run windows on a mac. in my case i have mac os on one hard drive and windows xp64 on the other. just simply install windows on the non mac hard drive and you're good to go. you will need to hold down the option key at startup to choose which drive (operating system) to use. only issues i've had were tracking down drivers but that wasn't very hard. i'm running xp 64 and i imagine if you run vista, finding drivers will be easier. most of the needed drivers are in the bootcamp folder on the install cd...but again you dont need to use bootcamp. 3ds max and vray run great, this won't be our last macpro

I didn't see half price, and in fact its not the same hardware. If you put same video cards (only is QUADRO 5600) and processors, the mac costs 9 880 USD, and the Boxx - 12,221. I do agree there's some difference, but I guess the BOXX motherboard has integrated RAID, which Apple adds up for a 891 USD.

I do believe Macs are nice too, but Apple would be crazy so sell something at such a price difference in my opinion.

And NO, I'm not from BOXX marketing.
