  • rhino to 3dmax

hi guys, I m having problems with a file coming from rhino, it have been exported to 3ds and the I m imported it to 3dmax, but the mesh its not very accurate, in places that have to be more soft and rounded, its planar like triangles.

If somebody could help me please, or give me some tips.

thx a lot and sorry for my poor english.

If you've got money get nPower's Rhino to Max. It runs about $300 for that version. If you want more options like proE and just about anything else it costs more.

Otherwise you just need to get a handle on the tessellation options in Rhino.
If it's a complex object then use obj, not 3ds. Obj will keep it all one single object. If the entire thing looks faceted, and it probably will, then try this.

convert to editable polys (right click and convert if you didn't know)
go to faces sub object mode
    select all
go down to smoothing and click the auto button. In most cases 45 is fine. If you need a hard edge somewhere and it's a shallow angle you might need to decrease that number so it's smaller than that angle. But if you do that make sure your tessellation is Really high or you'll get hard edges All over the place. you can also manually change those edges but you'll have to ask someone else how to do that. I rarely deal with that type of model in polygons so have only done it a couple times. I can't remember off the top of my head.

    Hope that helps.
