  • File save path

    Hi,

Whenever I want to save an image in max the dialogue always reverts to the same location ...............my documents\3dsmax.

    This is extremely annoying!!!!!!

Does anyone know how to tell max to default to the previous location?

    Thanks

It should be RenderOutput path found under:

Customize -> Configure User Paths -> File I/O

EDIT: There is also a history dropdown box at the top of the save dialogs that should contain any recent file locations.

wow direct folders is excellent! thanks!

          otherwise...

Set your project folder. It will then default to the renderoutput folder within the project folder. Also handy for scene files, assets, export, proxies etc.

Project folders is really where it's at, only....it shouldn't create the folders automatically unless they are used if they aren't already there.
Also, relative paths should work over a network. Don't quite a few people use networks? The stupid asset manager doesn't even work over the network. That's just plain dumb.

I hope they fix that in the next version. Maybe then I can actually get our team to use project folders.

They refused to use them because if you have a project folder set, then delete the folder which often happens after you are finished with the project and back it up, then you open max again and the folder is back...only it's empty now. Also if I use them and you don't....you don't have a choice. If you open that file, it'll default your folders to what i've chosen for that project and it leaves it that setting until you set it as a new project folder.

Terrible design. Small mistakes make it terrible.
